See,

this is what happens when you don't pay attention. Turns out my blog doesn't hate me. Turns out it did post all of the posts from my other, late, unlamented blog, Move to the Country, as I asked it to, but cunningly disguised them as posts on this blog, thus leading me to think this blog had only partially carried out my command and had in the process deleted some recent posts on this blog. The net result of all this is that now, below this post, you'll find a thoroughly confusing series of posts that will make no sense to anyone, least of all me.

Let this be a lesson to you all.

I think my blog hates me.

Maybe it's because I started up another blog (which I've now deleted); maybe it's because I fill this blog with nothing but utter drivel; maybe it's because I'm a Londoner that I love London taaaaaahhhhn. Whatever the reason, evidently my blog hates me. It's decided, of its own accord, not to display a couple of recent posts. I don't know why. Here's the longer of the two posts. Perhaps you can tell me what my blog might have found so objectionable about it:

I've been in my new job for three months now, and I've somehow managed to keep my desk remarkably clear. Literally I mean. At my previous job I was drowning in bits of paper and books and CDs and papercips and probably body parts, but here, I can see desk. Quite a lot of desk, in fact. Which leads me to think that the clutter at my previous job was due more to the sheer weight of pointless paper-pushing admin and arse-covering critical path twattery that crashed down on me like a great big wave of fuck than any innate untidiness on my part. Although I am, still, innately untidy.

Granted, this isn't the most searing insight I could've offered today, but I blog so infrequently at the moment you kind of have to take what you get.

Also, I might knock Move to the Country on the head. Really, I can't be fucked with it. I'm in the country (sort of). That's pretty much the extent of the joke, if it can even be called a joke. Move on.

Er,

that didn't seem to work. And now I've deleted the blog. Fuck. Let's try this instead (never let it be said I couldn't get distracted by a pointless and futile task). Here's one post from Move to the Country. If this works, I'll post the others:

Friday, May 02, 2008

I'm moving to the country.

Well, to a town in the country, which is closer to the country than I've ever lived before, having only lived in various parts of cities, chiefly London. Admittedly I have lived in the south London suburbs for large parts of my life, which in the grand scheme of things could be seen as being reasonably close to the country, if by the country you mean a preponderance of grass and trees and cows and shit (literally). But the south London suburbs are still effectively 'the city'.

Fantastic. First post in this new blog and I'm already undermining its legitimacy.

and I'll be a countryside-dweller (pretty much). The part of the countryside I'm moving to is a town called Lewes in the South Downs of England, an area of rolling grassland laid upon chalkbed, like a great big bumpy bowling green. At the moment I'm commuting down from London every day, and as the train leaves Wivelsfield I catch sight of the pale green wall of the distant South Downs, rising sharply over verdant cow-pocked plains. (Readers of my other blog, Off Message, may recognise this description, or at least a version of it. Hey, I liked it over there, so why not use it over here. Sue me.) But come next weekend, I'll be a resident.

Quite what form this blog will take (if I even bother to update it), I have no idea. One might reasonably assume it would be a chronicle of what it's like to move to the country, consisting of amusing and sometimes heartwarming tales of country life and living. Knowing me, however, it'll more likely be an outpouring of unfocused invective and meandering posts with little or no point. A bit like Off Message then. But written in the countryside instead of the city.
