The Sands of Iwo Camber

Continuing my tour of coastal Britan (see earlier entry for Leigh on Sea – although if you check back for it, you’ll quickly discover there’s no information there about Leigh on Sea at all, so don’t bother), this week I went to Camber Sands.

I have vague memories of going to Camber Sands when I was a kid. It’s looking a bit dilapidated now – the scattering of buildings and cafes could do with a lick of paint, or possibly just razing to the ground and starting over. I suppose it was out of season, but weirdly the shabby nature of the place actually tallies with my memories. Maybe the buildings looked like shit when they were erected – an interesting architectural approach if true.

You know, here I am, a full-grown man in my late thirties, and I still can’t type the word ‘erected’ without inwardly giggling like a spaz.

The dunes are still the best thing about Camber Sands. Doubtless much ‘heavy petting’ (as it used to be termed on those old warning signs in public swimming pools) has occurred in those dunes over the years; once you get far enough back in them from the beach, you can find yourself really quite secluded. I was too young to do any heavy petting last time I was there, but even if I had been old enough, I sincerely doubt anyone would’ve wanted to pet me, heavily or otherwise. Sob.

Aha!

Couldn’t log on to blog.com for a while there. But now I can.

It’s a new dawn.

It’s a new day. It’s a whole new world of blogging, but a bit like the old world of blogging. Which is to say, pointless and a waste of everyone’s time. Fantastic.

Right!

Here we are on the new blog. Unfortunately, even though I’ve transferred all the posts and comments from Existential Ennui over to here, for some reason you can’t see the oldest posts. Dunno why – they’re all there ‘behind the scenes’ as it were; they’re just not showing up front of house. Mind you, that’s probably a blessing.

So this is Off Message. You’ll notice that it’s almost identical to Existential Ennui, with the exception that there’s a nice photo of me just to the right there. Lovely. Same old bollocks, new address. Onwards.

Waiting for the man.

I’m waiting for a meeting to start. It could start at any time. Or it might not start at all.

I should stop posting here really and move over to the new blog. I’m only giving myself more stuff to transfer over. Gah.

1 - …and I’m still waiting for the internet man grr. If I put my sausages on you think he’ll turn up? (Comment this)

Moving.

Pretty soon, I’ll be moving this blog to a new address, with a new title. I’ve started transferring over posts and pictures and comments, and once I’m done, I’ll post the new URL here, and you can either follow me over, or seize the opportunity to stop reading this rubbish. Let’s face it, it’s not going to get any better.

Songs About Fucking

There’s a track by the Sneetches (who are a US surf rock/pop outfit) called ‘Another Shitty Day’. Dunno if you know it, but the chorus runs along the lines of “It’s another shitty day, today.” That about sums it up at the moment.

And yes, the title of this post is misleading. A special prize to the first person who comments with the name of the band whose album that’s the title of.

So yes.

I’m still reading The Spectator. The New Statesman’s just so fucking dull.
